The Police Cadet position is reserved for qualified applicants who are between the ages of 18 to 19. Once hired, Police Cadets work in various areas of the department in an uncertified capacity such as the Quartermaster Unit or Property and Evidence. Work hours and assignments are based on departmental need. At the age of 20, the cadet will attend the next available Police Academy, and, upon graduation, will become a fully certified peace officer with the Columbus Police Department.
